Writing a menu card that works
What goes on a menu card
- Your names and the date at the top
- Each course with a short name, like Starter or Main
- The dish, then one line on how it is served
- Late-night food and the cake, so guests save room
Writing the dishes
- Keep each dish to a few words guests can read at a glance
- Name the main ingredient, not the whole recipe
- Mark vegetarian dishes and anything else guests will ask about
- Check the spelling with your caterer before you print
Printing and setting out
- Use card stock of 250 to 300 gsm
- Print a test page first and check the size at 100%
- Count one card per guest, or one or two per table
- Lay the card on the folded napkin or lean it against the glass
